Jeld-Wen to Open New Vermont Plant

With an existing interior door plant in Ludlow, VT, Jeld-Wen Inc. is planning to expand in the state with a new manufacturing facility in nearby Springfield.

The Oregon-based manufacturer of windows and doors is planning to take about 200,000 square feet of space in a former machine tool plant that shut down in 2002.

The new plant will create between 130 and 170 jobs, according to Lynne Butterworth, Jeld-Wen’s communication manager.

“Demand for Jeld-Wen’s interior doors, the availability of potential sites near our successful door manufacturing facility, and the quality of our employees in Vermont were major factors in our decision to expand near our current plant,” says Al DiBella, general manager of the planned facility, as well as Jeld-Wen’s present operation in Ludlow, which produces both molded and flush doors.

The manufacturer scouted numerous locations in the Northeast before selecting the Springfield location. The new facility is designed to meet increased demand from dealers, distributors and home center stores for interior molded and flush doors, and provide for more efficient distribution, Butterworth notes.

The new plant will be Jeld-Wen’s 12th North American facility manufacturing interior doors. It also operates flush and molded door facilities in Alabama, California, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas, as well as Quebec. Jeld-Wen produces doorskins in Iowa, North Carolina, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia.
