John Swanson,
editor/associate publisher of Window & Door | We have a link in The Outside View... this week to a report from a Gary, Ind., newspaper, about a door manufacturer that won’t do installations in the city because the permit process is too time consuming.
It’s not the first such story I’ve heard. More than one window and door person has said to me, “we avoid that city like the plague” when I’ve told them I’m from New York. Similar comments have been made about certain parts of Florida and California.
We all complain about too much red tape, but how widespread is this sort of avoidance? That’s our poll question for the week. And, if you have any particular horror stories or maybe even an amusing anecdote, email me and let me know.
RESULTS AND COMMENTS FROM LAST WEEK'S POLL—"Where does your company stand with RFID technology?":
Many don't see radio frequency identification technology helping them in the near future, but some suggest it may be catching on in the window and door industry. Click here to read more.
