e-Poll
In my opinion, the "Silicon Valley" of the window and door industry is...
...the Minn./Wis./Iowa corridor.
...Ohio, Penn. and surrounding areas.
...the Southeast/Gulf Coast area.
...the West Coast.
...none of the above.

This week, I want you to go out of order. Before I taint you with the following information, take the poll to the left, then come back and read the rest.

Ok—you voted, right?

A news story (see The Outside View..., above) announcing some continuing good news for tintable glass developer Sage Electrochromics explains how the emerging supplier has set up shop in Faribault, Minn. Sage’s CEO, John Van Dine, calls the area—I just love this—the “Silicon Valley of windows” with major manufacturers Marvin Windows & Doors, Andersen Corp. and Pella nearby.

It’s where the big dogs live, but is the Minnesota area where your quick mental association pegged this industry’s hotbed of technological innovation and production? What does the rest of the industry think? Come back next week to see how our geographical battle plays out.

RESULTS AND COMMENTS FROM LAST WEEK'S POLL—"Twenty years from now, windows, doors and skylights will... ": Will innovation in "green" technologies infiltrate our industry's products?
