John Swanson,
editor/
associate publisher of Window & Door | Over the past few decades, we've seen a number of window and door ideas migrate from Europe to North America. If not vinyl itself, the concept of welded vinyl came from there. Multipoint locking hardware, argon gas filling and a couple other ideas were also adopted in Europe first.
So when I head to Germany for Fensterbau, the world's largest window and door show, I'm always on the lookout for the next big thing that could come to North America. At the past several events, hardware assembly/attachment equipment and electronic hardware have struck me as the most likely candidates. There also appears to be more window companies getting into solar products there now.
So what will be the next big European import? That's my question of the week. Of course, if you think the next big window and door concept import will come from somewhere else--or if North American ideas are more likely to expand elsewhere, I'd like to hear from you too. Email me and let me know what you see happening on the world stage.
RESULTS AND COMMENTS FROM LAST WEEK'S POLL—"My company's green marketing efforts...": You may have the products but do you have the message? Click here to see if window and door companies are marketing green.
