John Swanson,
editor/
associate publisher of Window & Door | Speaking at last week’s AAMA meeting, the DOE’s Marc LaFrance pointed to climate change concerns, our nation’s need to become more energy independent, tighter energy codes and changes in the Energy Star program and said, “All these things are moving forward together to move the industry from a double-paned package to pretty much a triple-paned package.” Those sentiments have been expressed before by DOE representatives, but I wanted to see if the industry really thinks it’s going to happen any time soon.
In this week’s poll question I’ve set a market share benchmark to get a sense of how fast people expect things are really going to change. I hope you’ll answer—and, as usual, I hope you’ll send me your thoughts on such a change. Will it be a challenge for the industry? Will it be good for the industry?
I know there’s some skeptics out there too—people who believe there are more cost-effective ways our industry can contribute to our nation’s energy efficiency. I hope I’ll hear some ideas on that front too.
