I recently came across 5 Ways to Build Affordable, Energy Star-Rated Houses,
an article on BuilderOnline that highlights strategies used by a South
Carolina builder. "The company upgraded its windows to low-E
high-performance units, but it reduced the number of windows it uses,
which reduces costs," the report notes.
Over the past several
months, I've also heard a couple window manufacturers express concern
that the number of windows used per home could decline going forward.
Newly constructed homes are trending smaller and less floor area
usually means less glazing area. With so few homes being built, it may
be tough to see any real trends, but do you think we could see fewer
windows per home in the future? That's our poll question of the week.
