John Swanson, editor/associate publisher of Window & Door

Marvin is certainly not the first window and door company to get involved in siding, as reported this week.  There are plenty of building product distributors and dealers, and plenty of exterior contractors that handle both lines. There a number of companies that manufacture both too.

It's still news, however, that Marvin is looking beyond windows and doors. They aren't the only manufacturer to have done so recently. Gorell Windows & Doors introduced a new line of insulation products at the beginning of this year and ProVia Door added a siding manufacturing business in 2009.

Is diversification a trend?  Has your company launched a non-fenestration product recently? That's our poll question of the week. And, of course, I'd like to hear from you.  Whether you're a dealer, distributor or manufacturer, why are you looking beyond windows and doors?  Again, I hope you contact me to share any thoughts and observations.
