By Emily Thompson
When I got my first job offer years ago, one of the biggest upsides in my six-week-old college graduate eyes was the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas, where I could spend my precious days off gambling and soaking up the desert sun. Fast forward through almost a dozen years of trade shows—a fair share of them at the Las Vegas Convention Center—and the allure of the city has transitioned into a different kind of fun, and the stars and glamour of industry shows has dimmed to a familiar sparkle. That is, at least, until my most recent job offer that also included the caveat of a Las Vegas trade show to launch my new career. It’s just too appropriate that this new-to-me and exciting event is in the same hall as my first tradeshow experience.
I am thrilled to attend GlassBuild America: The Glass, Window & Door Expo this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center as the new editor of Window & Door. There’s nothing like jumping in head-first, right?
I hope that I have already met many of you in the hall and at the Window & Door Dealers Alliance Dealers’ Forum by the time this word gets to you. If not, we still have a day, maybe two, to make that happen. Stop by booth 1769 and ask for me. I want to hear your perspective, your concerns, your needs, and your thoughts about your industry. And if I don’t get the pleasure to meet you in person, I hope to hear from you over the course of my settling in.
