Nobilus Adds Patten Design

Nobilus, the manufacturer of high-end hardware previously known as Stone River Bronze, has entered into an agreement to purchase the intellectual property and products of Patten Design. Based in Huntington Beach, Calif., the company creates and manufactures custom door and window hardware.

Patten Design’s line includes one-of-a-kind hardware pieces, created from designers’ sketches and photos. Described as an artisans’ shop, the company was founded in 1987 by Ted Patten, who was later joined by his son Taylor. Ted Patten passed away in 2005, and his son died the following year.

“Nobilus is a company that can truly honor the legacy of artisan work created by Ted and Taylor,” says Katherine Bleakley, president of Patten Design. “Nobilus can establish Patten Design with a larger audience as a new standard of design excellence, engineering and manufacturing. The company has committed to keeping its manufacturing 100 percent in the United States. This is our practice, and it was also very important to Taylor.”

“Nobilus is rapidly expanding its product offerings and range of manufacturing expertise. Acquiring the products of Patten Design was a perfect fit,” says Curtis Wiemann, president and CEO. Patten Design uses a lost wax process, with castings in silicon bronze to capture the finest details—an approach similar to Nobilus’ investment casting process. “The legacy of hand craftsmanship and attention to detail started by the Pattens will live on within Nobilus and reach an even wider audience,” he states.

Based in Corinne, Utah, Nobilus was founded as Stone River Bronze but changed its name earlier this year to reflect a broadened product line (read more
